How relationships work
Every villager has a heart meter that goes up as you build a relationship with them. You raise it by:
- Talking to them every day — a quick daily chat adds friendship.
- Giving gifts — especially their loved gifts (more on that below).
- Completing their quests and seeing their story events, which trigger as hearts increase.
As the meter fills, you’ll unlock cutscenes that deepen each character’s story.
From friendship to dating to marriage
The path generally goes:
- Raise hearts through daily talks and gifts until you reach the dating threshold.
- Start dating the character you’re interested in (you can pursue romance once you’ve built enough of a bond).
- Keep raising hearts to the maximum, watching their romance cutscenes along the way.
- Propose once you’ve reached the top of their heart meter and obtained the in-game marriage item. Check the relevant shop and your social menu in-game for the current requirement, as updates occasionally tweak the details.
After marriage, your partner moves in and becomes part of your daily farm life.
Gift tips to speed things up
- Learn their loved gifts. Loved gifts give the biggest friendship boost — and birthdays multiply it, so save a loved gift for their special day.
- Don’t over-gift. There’s a limited number of gifts that count per week, so make each one a loved or liked item.
- Avoid disliked gifts. Giving something they dislike actually lowers the meter — check the social menu if you’re unsure.
