My Time at Sandrock Review: A Cozy Crafting Adventure
Our My Time at Sandrock review. Is this workshop-building life sim worth it? We cover the crafting, the town, the story, the pros and cons, and who should play.
If your favorite part of cozy games is building things, My Time at Sandrock might be your perfect match. It swaps the usual farm for a workshop, and the result is one of the most content-packed cozy games around.
In short: a big, charming crafting-and-life sim that’s well worth it if you love gathering, building, and a town full of characters.
What is My Time at Sandrock?
From developer Pathea Games (and a sequel to My Time at Portia), Sandrock casts you as the new builder in a struggling desert town. You gather materials, craft machines and parts at your workshop, fulfill commissions to revive the town, and get to know (and romance) its colorful residents along the way.
It’s available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch, with online co-op.
What it does well
- Crafting is deeply satisfying. Building your workshop up from scrap to a humming machine-shop is the heart of the game, and it’s wonderful.
- The town has personality. A large cast with full voice acting makes Sandrock feel alive, and the story has real charm and stakes.
- There’s a ton to do. Commissions, relationships, festivals, mining, exploring — easily dozens of hours.
- Co-op. Building together with a friend is a lovely bonus.
Where it stumbles
- It can be grindy. Gathering and crafting in bulk is the loop; if that’s not your thing, it may wear thin.
- Some rough edges. Performance and bugs were a complaint earlier on; they’ve improved a lot, but the odd hiccup remains.
- Light combat. There’s some optional combat — gentle and skippable for the most part, but worth knowing.
Who should play it?
Play it if: you love the crafting-and-building side of cozy games and want a big, story-rich town to sink into. Fans of Stardew Valley who wish they could build more will feel right at home.
Maybe skip it if: you prefer a pure, low-effort farming sim or dislike gathering grinds.
The verdict
My Time at Sandrock is a generous, charming crafting adventure with heart. It asks for a little patience with its grind, but rewards you with one of the most satisfying build-up loops in the genre.
Worth it? Yes — especially for crafting lovers, and great on sale.
