Fields of Mistria Review (Early Access First Impressions)

Few cozy games have charmed players as fast as Fields of Mistria. With its gorgeous animated pixel art and warm small-town vibe, it became an instant favorite in early access. Here are our first impressions — and whether to play it now or wait.

In short: already one of the most delightful farming sims around, with the polish to become a genre great — just remember it’s still in development.

What is Fields of Mistria?

From developer NPC Studio, Fields of Mistria is a farming-and-life sim clearly inspired by Stardew Valley and classic Harvest Moon, wrapped in a soft, anime-influenced pixel-art style. You restore a farm, befriend (and romance) the townsfolk, mine, fish, and uncover the town’s mysteries.

It’s in early access on PC (Steam) — meaning it’s playable and lovely now, but still being expanded with more story and content.

What’s wonderful

• The art is stunning. Easily some of the most beautiful, expressive pixel art in the genre — characters and animations ooze charm.
• It feels great to play. Smooth, polished, and welcoming, even in early access — an impressively gentle on-ramp.
• Lovable characters. The cast is endearing, and the town has a warm, inviting personality.
• Lots of promise. Frequent updates keep adding content, and the foundation is excellent.

What to keep in mind

• It’s early access. The story and some systems aren’t finished — content is still being added over time.
• If you want a “complete” game, you may prefer to wait for the 1.0 release. If you’re happy to grow with it, dive in now.

Who should play it now?

Play it now if: you adore the look, love farming sims, and don’t mind an in-progress game that’s already a joy.
